Foundations
I spent most of this weekend giving myself a crash-course on WordPress and setting up this blog. My plan this evening was to actually turn to the reason why I created it in the first place – to participate in Amy Johnson Crow’s “52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks“.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered that in creating my first post for this blog, I had unsuspectingly completed the first challenge of the series, “Foundations”. I could easily call it a day and pat myself on the back for successfully – if inadvertently – meeting the challenge of week one.
However, a part of me feels like that’s cheating, as the original post was intended to satisfy a completely different goal. I felt the need to create a post created solely for the purpose of meeting the 52 Ancestors Challenge and fulfilling the spirit of the undertaking.
This is the oldest document I have found regarding my direct paternal line. It is a scan of the marriage registration of my Great Great Great Great Great Grandparents, Pieter Cornelisz van der Fluijt and Aleijda Claasdr van der Hans. They married May 30, 1728 in Sassenheim, which is just outside Leiden, South Holland.
